Korean biotech companies are set to make a strong showing at BIO USA 2025, the world’s largest biotech convention, with a focus on technology licensing, global partnerships, and overseas investment. Held in Boston from June 16 to 19, the event provides a global stage to expand their footprint in the industry.

BIO USA is organized by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and attracts approximately 20,000 industry professionals each year to engage in networking, technology exchange, and partnering opportunities.

Samsung Biologics is once again setting up an independent booth for the 13th consecutive year—an unmatched streak among Korean companies since the firm’s founding in 2011. Positioned at the entrance of the exhibition hall, the 167㎡ (approx. 50-pyeong) booth will feature LED walls and interactive touch screens to showcase its full range of CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) services. The company will also highlight its newly launched antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) services and its world-class production capacity of 784,000 liters.

Samsung Biologics recently announced a spin-off of its biosimilar arm, Samsung Bioepis, a move expected to resolve longstanding concerns about conflicts of interest—namely, a CDMO manufacturing its own products. This separation is likely to accelerate global contract wins. Additionally, the absence of Chinese CDMO players like WuXi Biologics from this year’s event may offer Korean firms greater visibility.

Lotte Biologics will use its private meeting room within its independent booth to engage global pharmaceutical firms in partnership discussions. It will unveil plans for its Songdo Bio Campus 1, set to begin commercial production in 2027, alongside its ADC production site in Syracuse, U.S. Lotte plans to emphasize its "dual-site" strategy leveraging geographical advantages and its end-to-end ADC capabilities as a differentiator in the global CDMO market.

Dong-A Socio Group affiliates—Dong-A ST, ST Pharm, and ST GenBio—will operate a joint booth. Dong-A ST will promote its major pipeline assets, while ST Pharm plans to unveil new initiatives such as guide RNAs for gene-editing technologies. ST GenBio will target global clients by showcasing its biosimilar CDMO capabilities.

Several companies are scheduled for corporate presentations during the event. Celltrion will operate an independent booth near the entrance to promote its products and seek new partners. On June 18, Dr. Jang So-Yong will deliver a company presentation, highlighting four biosimilars to be launched this year as well as key pipeline assets.

Samjin Pharmaceutical will give its first-ever presentation at BIO USA, showcasing its pipeline, platform technologies, and investment strategies in an effort to forge global partnerships. The presentation will be led by R&D head Soo-Min Lee.

Other participating presenters include Huons Lab, GI Innovation, Curecell, and Kolon TissueGene, all set to share updates on their pipelines and technologies.

Meanwhile, the Korea Pavilion, co-hosted by the Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization (KoreaBIO) and KOTRA, will house 51 Korean companies including Alteogen and HLB.

“This is an important opportunity for Korean firms to maintain their visibility on the global stage,” said one industry insider. “With Chinese firms absent and uncertainty around U.S. trade policies, this year’s BIO USA presents a valuable chance to demonstrate Korea’s technological strength and reliability.”
