Samsung Biologics is significantly expanding its handling of next-generation therapeutics as it strengthens the growth engine of its contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business. To achieve this, the company has secured a new industrial site spanning more than 180,000 square meters.

Samsung Biologics announced on December 1 that it signed a land purchase agreement on November 28 with the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) for an advanced industrial cluster site (187,427 m²) located in Zone 11 of Songdo International City, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, to establish its Third Bio Campus.

After being selected as the preferred negotiation partner in June, the company completed negotiation procedures and finalized the contract. The land purchase price is KRW 248.7 billion (approx. $190 million). The newly secured site is large enough to fit roughly 26 soccer fields.

At the Third Bio Campus, Samsung Biologics plans to build research and manufacturing facilities not only for its existing antibody therapeutics but also for a wide range of modalities—such as cell and gene therapies (CGT), antibody vaccines, and peptides—which are seeing rapid growth in CDMO demand.

The company aims to diversify beyond antibody-focused CDMO services and establish core capabilities in next-generation modalities including mRNA, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and organoids, enabling swift response as the market expands.

The Third Bio Campus will be located adjacent to Bio Campuses 1 and 2, and will be designed so that manufacturing processes, quality, technologies, and functions can operate in connection with the existing sites. Samsung Biologics expects this integrated design to enhance overall operational competitiveness, including maximizing production efficiency, shortening customer project lead times, and strengthening its ability to meet global regulatory requirements.

Samsung Biologics plans to invest around KRW 7 trillion (approx. $5.3 billion) in building the Third Bio Campus. The project is expected to generate over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and create an economic impact of KRW 12 trillion (approx. $9.1 billion) by 2030.

Chief Executive Officer John Rim (Rim Jon-hwan) of Samsung Biologics said, “With the completion of our transition into a pure-play CDMO through the recent spin-off, this contract allows us to secure new growth engines by expanding into next-generation modalities.”
