Kang MinKyung’s Secret to Staying Slim: Checking 'This'?
[Celeb Health] Kang MinKyung’s Secret to Staying Slim
Singer Kang MinKyung recently revealed how she manages her blood sugar levels.
During an appearance on SBS’s ‘Whenever I have time’, she checked her blood sugar after a cake was brought on set. “I think this will cause a blood sugar spike,” she said before taking her reading. When Yoo JaeSuk jokingly remarked, “You’re putting sugar in your coffee, but what about your blood sugar?” Kang MinKyung responded, “I can’t go overboard. I’ll hold off.”
Kang MinKyung is known to check her blood sugar regularly. In October, she shared her strategy for blood sugar management, which includes using lemon juice and nuts. "Everyone's paying more attention to their blood sugar these days, and I’m just starting to take it seriously,” she said.
The Importance of Blood Sugar Management
Understanding why blood sugar management is important can help explain Kang MinKyung's approach. Blood sugar refers to the amount of glucose in the blood. When blood sugar levels are too high or too low, it can lead to serious health problems. If blood sugar fluctuates too often, it can trigger inflammation and increase insulin resistance. Over time, high blood sugar can cause nerve damage, heart disease, and kidney problems. On the other hand, low blood sugar can result in coma, seizures, and, in extreme cases, death.
Blood sugar levels are also linked to weight gain. After a blood sugar spike, the body releases excess insulin to bring the levels down. Repeated spikes lead to more fat storage and can make it harder to lose weight.
To prevent obesity and maintain overall health, being mindful of blood sugar spikes, as Kang MinKyung suggests, is key. A blood sugar spike occurs when blood sugar rises quickly after eating. To avoid this, it's important to maintain balanced eating habits, consume an appropriate amount of carbohydrates, and limit sugary snacks and drinks.
What Are the Benefits of Lemon Water and Nuts?
One of Kang MinKyung’s strategies is drinking lemon water. Lemons have a low glycemic index, which helps stabilize blood sugar. They also promote feelings of fullness, making it easier to control weight. The pectin and polyphenols in lemons aid in fat metabolism and prevent fat accumulation. Drinking lemon water regularly also boosts vitamin C intake, which helps prevent aging and keeps skin hydrated. A single lemon contains about 18.6mg of vitamin C. However, people with sensitive stomachs should avoid drinking lemon water on an empty stomach, as the acidity can irritate the stomach lining.
Nuts are another great option for managing cravings. They provide a healthy alternative to sweet snacks while also offering various health benefits. Rich in plant-based protein, nuts help you feel full longer. They also contain unsaturated fats and selenium, which can reduce bad cholesterol levels and promote heart health.
