Seoul, South Korea – Renowned actress Oh Yeon-soo recently shared her comprehensive skincare routine, emphasizing the importance of sun protection and mindful use of heating. During her appearance on the SBS entertainment show ‘Ugly Our Bastard,’ Oh revealed that she diligently applies sunscreen every single day, regardless of the season.

Commitment to Sunscreen

Oh Yeon-soo disclosed, “My skin is very important to me, so I wear sunscreen 365 days a year, even at home.” She highlighted the necessity of sunscreen even in the absence of makeup due to natural light. This practice underscores the critical role of UV protection in maintaining healthy skin.

Impact of UV Rays

UV rays reduce skin elasticity and accelerate the aging process. Long-term exposure allows them to penetrate deeply into the skin, causing damage that leads to premature aging. They also stimulate melanin production, resulting in freckles and sun spots. Oh Yeon-soo’s routine reflects a broader trend among celebrities who advocate for daily sunscreen use to prevent blemishes, sun damage, aging, and wrinkles.

Effective Sunscreen Application

To maximize UV protection, it is recommended to apply at least a finger’s worth of sunscreen. For indoor use, a milder sunscreen with a lower SPF is sufficient. When applying sunscreen, it is crucial to cover often overlooked areas such as the middle of the face, sideburns, jawline, ears, and neck. Research published in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology found significant differences in skin condition between women who applied sunscreen to their faces but not their necks over a 40-year period. The cheeks, protected from the sun, had fewer wrinkles and blemishes, whereas the neck displayed rough, pigmented skin with age spots and melasma.

Managing Heating for Skin Health

In addition to her sunscreen regimen, Oh Yeon-soo mentioned her efforts to minimize the use of heating during cold days. “I don’t turn the heater on as much as possible, but if my kids say they’re cold, I turn it on,” she explained. She also shared that she keeps her body warm using the car seat heater. Excessive use of heaters can disrupt the skin’s oil-water balance, leading to acne and wrinkles. The sudden temperature changes caused by heaters, especially during winter, can dry out the skin, causing moisture to evaporate and resulting in clogged pores, acne, and wrinkles. Dry skin also becomes prone to itching and discomfort.

Tips for Safe Heating Use

For those who need to use heaters, it is advisable to maintain indoor temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius and humidity levels between 50-60%. Methods to achieve this include spreading laundry around the room or using a humidifier. Periodically misting the room can also help maintain adequate humidity. In cars, ensure proper ventilation by opening windows for about 10 minutes every hour to prevent a dry environment. When using the car heater, direct the airflow towards the feet to avoid direct contact with the face, which can exacerbate dryness and skin irritation.

Oh Yeon-soo’s dedication to her skincare routine serves as an informative guide for those seeking to maintain healthy, youthful skin. Her approach highlights the importance of consistent sun protection and mindful heating practices in preserving skin health.
